Whether you are in a leadership position, running your own business, or advancing your career it is easy to get so caught up in the daily grind that you forget to STOP! In order to be good to yourself, your family and the people around you there needs to be time to disconnect and energize yourself.
Last week I did this for the first time in a while and I can tell you I will be a better leader, friend, wife and mom because of it. I was able to attend a conference for my wellness business which always energizes me. I then took a few extra days off. I didn’t have a plan, my husband and I went to a cute little coffee shop. I popped the lid off on my latte and they put a heart on it – made me smile! We walked through the town of Winter Park. I meet an amazing person and had an impromptu 2 hour conversation about our lives and interests. We went and saw family, caught up and ate tasty food. I decided I needed some new pictures so we did an fun photo session. We listened to books on audible and the Crime Junkie podcast. The drive back was fun, we made several stops including one at Lane Southern Orchards. Talk about delicious peach milkshakes, nice peach soap, and so much more! I then grabbed a snap of the sunset on the highway. It was so relaxing.
What I didn’t do: answer any work texts – I let them know in advance I wouldn’t be available and who to contact. I didn’t check my work email – I activated an out of office message with who they can contact and when I would be back to respond. I DID make sure I had time blocked off the morning I returned to go through my emails, review what had happened and my schedule for the rest of the week. I reached out to my “peeps” to check in and then set to work again.
I was Energized and Ready to Run! My advice, run hard – but don’t forget to take a break and disconnect. That time away can make you more successful!
